Its that time of the year again: Christmas. Blinking lights, cheerful music and busy streets: Christmas mood is everywhere. But not all of us are feeling it. Christmas can also be a reminder of the things that one longs for but are missing, of the people that once were there but no longer are, or simply some of us might spend this christmas far from home and from our loved ones.
When every movie, song and commercial serves as a reminder that life is in most cases not like it's depicted there, it's natural to feel lonely, so dont worry youre not alone. No matter where you are or what is going on in your life there are some simple things you can do that make you feel better in lonely times, and actually enjoy of this particular time of the year.
Go for a walk, and listen to music that makes you feel happy
Great music has the power to stop us from overthinking and bring us a little closer to stay in the present. If you find yourself ruminating about your past or projecting yourself too far ahead in the future, try to get out of bed and go for a walk, listen to your favorite playlist and enjoy the fresh air and the winter landscapes wherever you are.
Do one small thing different
Try to do something different than what you usually do. Break your own habit and surprise yourself, it will give you a new perspective. From visiting friends you haven’t seen in a while, accepting those invitations that you usually turn off or by simply taking yourself to dinner o to a museum, anything is valid so long it pushes you out of your comfort zone.
Write down the things that you are grateful for
One of the instant recipes for happiness is gratefulness. If you find yourself sneaking into other people's lives on the internet, you might get the wrong impression that there are people out there who have it made: great family, countless trips, wealth, joy and fashionable style. Well, when it comes to social media that’s usually how curated it gets. Your time is limited, so this Christmas season sit down and jot down all the things you feel grateful for and the ones you’ll like the upcoming year to grant you. When inspiration finds you working, they will all for sure come.
